Fire breaks out at the Bengaluru BBMP Quality Control Lab

The blaze harmed all nine people who were inside the structure at the time of the disaster. 

Officials from a number of organisations, including the BBMP and police, claimed that the incident happened while the lab's personnel was doing a bitumen extraction test to ascertain the amount of bitumen present in a sample of bituminous concrete.

The concrete sample was reportedly stored in an oven on the testing apparatus, and benzene was reportedly utilised for the test.

The sample and the oven erupted due to overheating, and the benzene stored in the lab started burning when it was exposed to the heat. Only the lab's entrance, which is where the explosion happened.
